While mainstream photography often focuses on traditional subjects and popular trends, there lies an equally vibrant world of niche clients. These clients bring with them unique stories, passions, and identities.
Each niche client brings a distinct perspective and a wealth of visual possibilities.
Photographing niche clients requires respectfully navigating spaces that may be unfamiliar to mainstream audiences.
It’s an opportunity to break free from the constraints of traditional photography and explore new forms of expression, about celebrating diversity, embracing individuality, and championing the beauty of the unconventional.
In the competitive landscape of hospitality, where first impressions often seal the deal, the significance of good photography for your establishment cannot be overstated. Potential guests browse through countless options online; captivating visuals can make all the difference between someone scrolling past your establishment and them clicking through to explore further.
Your website or listing page is often the first point of contact between your guesthouse and potential guests. High-quality photographs instantly convey a sense of professionalism, quality, and attention to detail, capturing the attention of viewers and encouraging them to delve deeper into what your you have to offer.
Photographs serve as a visual representation of what guests can expect during their stay. By showcasing the unique features, amenities, and ambiance of your guesthouse through stunning imagery, you set clear expectations and pique the curiosity of potential guests, enticing them to envision themselves experiencing the comfort and hospitality your establishment provides.
When visitors see well-lit, well-composed images that showcase the beauty and charm of your property, they are more likely to trust that their experience will meet or exceed their expectations. In contrast, poor-quality or amateurish photographs may raise doubts about the quality of your establishment and deter potential guests from making a reservation.
Every guesthouse has its own unique selling points that set it apart from the competition. Whether it’s a picturesque garden, cozy interiors, panoramic views, or personalized services, quality photography allows you to highlight these features and create a compelling narrative.
In a world inundated with visual content, personal branding photography stands out as a potent tool for individuals and businesses alike. Everyone from freelancers to corporate professionals recognise the value of crafting a compelling personal brand.
In the digital age, first impressions are often made online. Your photographs serve as your digital handshake, offering a glimpse into your personality, acumen, and values. A well executed photo can convey confidence, approachability, and authenticity, instantly resonating with your target audience.
People connect with people, not logos or abstract concepts. Branding photography humanises your brand, allowing your audience to see the face behind the name. Through carefully curated images, you can cultivate trust, foster connections, and establish meaningful relationships.
Personal branding photography is a dynamic and multifaceted asset that empowers individuals and businesses to craft compelling narratives, forge authentic connections, and stand out in a competitive landscape. By harnessing the power of visuals, you can elevate your brand, captivate your audience, and leave a lasting impact.
Equally important is capturing natural moments: Some of the most compelling images are captured in candid moments of laughter, conversation, or introspection, capturing the emotion that defines your personality and brings your brand to life.
I was recently asked who my ideal photography client is.
Each relationship I have with my clients is a unique interplay of vision, trust, and collaboration.
We partner in the creation of art that transforms moments or places into timeless images and at the foundation of this relationship is, mutual respect and understanding.
My clients understand that photography is not just about the final image but a journey of exploration and expression. They value my vision and recognise what I bring to the table, and in turn, I listen to the essence of what they wish to capture.
If I were asked to rank clients in preferential order, I would battle as I thoroughly enjoy working with, private individuals, personal branding clients, small business owners, professionals and corporates as well as couples and small families.
At the end of the day, my goal is to make my clients look the best version of themselves or their establishments/properties.
And let’s be honest, it doesn’t hurt getting referrals from clients too.
A new baby is like the beginning of all things: wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.

I could not wait to meet this precious little bundle of perfection. Her mama kept me up to speed on every step of her wonderful pregnancy and birth of sweet Jané. I counted the days until I could meet her.
Babies are bits of stardust, blown from the hand of God.

Proud parents
Jaco and Janke took to parenting like ducks to water. It was wonderful to see how relaxed and calm they were, which is evident in how very relaxed and happy their daughter Jané is. I would love to have spent more time with them but alas, time did not allow and unfortunately it will be a while before I get to see them all again, hopefully, sooner than later.

A mother’s gentle loving touchA father’s absolute adoration
It’s the strangest and most fun thing, reconnecting with a junior school friend who in my mind’s eye is still a pre-teen. Then I got to meet her children who are around the age we last saw each other.
I enjoyed the happiest fun day with Sally. We nattered and laughed non stop catching up on a lifetime of stories. I do believe there were a few we never got to finish or even start.
There was some adulting required on our part as we were doing a personal branding and family session. We dedicated the morning to business and the afternoon for the family session.
Proud mama and her younginsSibling love
It’s sad when we live so far away from each other – across the oceans in fact so it was wonderful to have our diaries align with each other. Hopefully, it won’t be another lifetime before we see each other again.
Doing doggy photo sessions are the best fun, although I am inherently scared of big dogs I don’t know so this was a great exercise for me especially as Zoro’s hello was bounding towards me with his bark as deep and loud as a tank!
Once I picked my nerves up off the sand, we quickly made friends and he gently took his favourite sweets (baby carrots) out my hand, then it was all systems go-go-go!
One-year-old pups are like toddlers on a sugar high – full of boundless energy so you have to be super quick and agile to keep up.
Oops, over-shot a littleHey, you forgot the ball
If there is one thing Zoro loves besides his daddy, it’s playing with his ball – so much so he broke the squicky insert on day one – a supposed indestructible ball is no challenge for this big boy.

“Everyone thinks they have the best dog. And none of them are wrong.”
No, not the vaccination, these two love-birds, Janké and Jaco. ❤

Working with these two beautiful people was so much fun. I’ve done sessions with Janké before who is an absolute natural in front of the camera as was her very patient, loving boyfriend, Jaco. Their love for one another is very evident and so inspiring to see.
There is something very special about photographing horses. They have the most beautiful natures.
Sue’s children gave her a Mother’s Day gift voucher for a session with her horses which she was unable to use until recently because of the awful winter weather we’ve been experiencing so we were both very excited when we finally firmed up a date.
Sue was most gracious in accommodating my requests for posing with her beautiful horses.
It was a little more challenging than I had anticipated getting the horses ears up and forward. I guess much like asking a child do do something they don’t want to do.
I loved that Duke, Tore and Jack were unsaddled and each had their own special bridal.
Do I have something stuck in my teeth?Kisses
I’m looking forward to spending more time with Sue and her beautiful horses. ❤
Not sure what has taken so long to convert (albeit small) a spare room into a studio at home – best fun decision in a long time.
Sadly the third wave of Covid is rife in South Africa at the moment so booking regular shoots will have to take a back seat for a while but I will thoroughly enjoy using the space as much as I can in the interim.
